It was the first day of Anime Expo 2023, also known as AX, and the Los Angeles Convention Center was buzzing with the energy of thousands of cosplayers, panelists, and vendors alike. Among the throngs was a particularly enthusiastic group of cosplayers known as Team Pikachu. The team was made up of five die-hard fans who had spent months crafting their costumes for the highly anticipated Pikachu photoshoot.
The team consisted of: Sora, the original Pikachu leader; Luna, Pikachu’s tech-savvy assistant; Ken, the burly Pikachu with a heart of gold; Mei, the cute and adorable Pikachu; and finally, the new member, Jia, a quirky Pikachu with a mind for comedy and a heart full of mischief.
Sora was the most dedicated member of the group and took the photoshoot very seriously. She had spent weeks perfecting her cosplay, which included an intricately designed Pikachu suit made of yellow felt and fur, a pair of puffy red cheeks with small speakers to play Pikachu sounds, and a set of furry yellow arm and leg warmers for authenticity. Luna had a similar outfit but with added technological features such as LED lights in her cheeks to mimic Pikachu’s electric attacks.
Ken was responsible for bringing the group together. He was a Pikachu giant in size, his suit made of heavy-duty yellow cotton, and a set of foam muscles to add definition to his arms and chest. Mei, the youngest member, was a mini Pikachu, her suit consisting of a yellow t-shirt, yellow shorts, and a mini Pikachu hat with a small, puffy cheek attached.
Jia, however, was known for her quirky antics and comedic flair. She had a Pikachu outfit with a twist—a built-in whoopee cushion strategically placed in a hidden pocket of her bottom, ready for the perfect moment to strike.
As the convention started, Team Pikachu found a quiet corner of the convention center and prepared for their photoshoot. They set up the backdrop, arranged the lighting, and began taking their first pictures. Everything was going smoothly until Jia, who was standing behind Ken, decided it was time for a little fun.
“Alright, Ken, get ready for your big moment!” Jia exclaimed, as she quickly placed the whoopee cushion on the ground where Ken was about to stand. Ken, oblivious to Jia’s prank, stepped forward and planted his feet down on the makeshift stage.
The moment Ken shifted his weight, a loud "PLOP!" echoed through the hall. Ken froze, his face contorted with confusion and embarrassment. Luna, Sora, and Mei couldn’t help but burst into laughter, and the room filled with the sound of chuckles from nearby attendees who had stopped to watch the commotion.
Ken slowly looked around, his face flushed red, trying to figure out what had just happened. When he noticed Jia stifling her giggles, his eyes widened in realization. "Jia, you little—!" But before he could finish his sentence, he heard another "PLOP!" as he moved slightly.
The team couldn’t stop laughing, and the crowd watched in amusement as Ken tried to maintain his composure, wobbling on the cushion. Jia, still unable to control her laughter, had to steady herself by holding onto the backdrop.
Sora, trying to regain control of the group and salvage the photoshoot, shouted, "Alright, folks, let's get back on track! Jia, you need a seat, not a prank!"
Jia nodded, still laughing, and quickly removed the whoopee cushion. As they resumed the photoshoot, the incident seemed to break the tension, and the team felt more at ease. Ken’s cheeks, both real and fake, were still red, but he couldn’t help but smile at the absurdity of the moment.
As they continued taking photos, Jia, in between fits of laughter, suggested they take a group shot with the whoopee cushion in the picture as a memento of their fun and memorable day at AX. The group agreed, and with a final countdown, they snapped a photo, capturing the absurdity of the moment.
The photoshoot went on, and the group took numerous pictures, both serious and silly, with Ken and Jia playing off each other’s antics. They even included shots of Ken sitting on the whoopee cushion, much to the delight of their fans and fellow cosplayers.
As the day turned to night and the convention center started to quiet down, Team Pikachu packed up their gear, exhausted but thrilled with their day. They left the convention center, laughing and sharing their story with anyone who would listen, making sure to mention the unforgettable incident with the whoopee cushion.
And that’s how Team Pikachu’s unforgettable day at Anime Expo 2023 became the talk of the convention, filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a whole lot of Pikachu fun.
